I don’t know about you, but I like to know when bad weather is headed my way. From a winter storm in the North Country to severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes, it is important to me to be prepared. Sometimes watching the weather report on television is not enough, especially if the weather knocks out electrical power that prevents the use of the television, computer and some run-of-the-mill radio and stereo systems. In order stay informed, I decided I needed to find an alternative method of staying on top of the weather reports in order to protect my family and my home.
So I had to do a bit of shopping around. First of all, not all weather radios have a battery backup or solar source of energy to function. I found that rather crazy, since storms of any nature can prevent the use of electricity that is supplied to your home. Most people, especially in urban apartments, do not have the option of using a generator to power their most essential equipment, like the radio that can warn them of more potential bad weather. In addition, a lot of stormy weather happens after dark, preventing the use of solar energy integrated into the equipment from working, rendering the radio useless in providing necessary information.
So after shopping around, I found a weather radio that seems perfect for me. It is the Reecom R-1650 weather radio. First of all, if I am sleeping and some bad weather is floating into the area, it has a siren that can alert me to wake me up and take action. I like that, since others just have a beeping sound that mimics an alarm clock, and sometimes I don’t pay attention to that. Second of all, the Reecom R-1650 has a battery backup system that appears to be one of the best on the market, using both AAA batteries as well as a radio battery to keep time and still warn me of bad weather if my electricity goes out.
I also found the Reecom R-1650 easy to set for my needs, with the buttons being well-marked and the instructions very straight-forward in the explanation of how to use the radio. That’s one less worry on my mind, and I don’t need a college degree in radio usage to get it to work the way I want it to. Along with my own research, I just had to get online and find a Reecom R-1650 review to see if my perceptions were correct. I found that they were. I am happy using this product, knowing that the radio will warn me when I should be watching for the very thing that I fear most – the loss of life and home.
The choice of a weather radio for you is not up to me, nor will I force my choice on you. However, I suggest shopping around to find exactly what the perfect choice is for you. But in asking, you have been given my opinion on only one weather radio and that is the Reecom R-1650. It’s the one that I’ll have in my house!
